Lincoln College Showcase Their Skills at Lincolnshire Showground

Students from Plumbing, Carpentry, Brickwork and Electrical at Lincoln College were given the spotlight recently at the Lincolnshire Showground as part of the nationwide Construction & Engineering Week.

Learner representatives from across Lincoln and Newark College were on hand to demonstrate and teach skills in their chosen field to visiting schools all week, meaning they were working with thousands of children across primary and secondary schools from across the county.

Curriculum Lead for Plumbing and Brickwork, Mark Snell, said: “This yearly event which Lincoln College supports each year, provides around 1,700 local school students with a valuable insight into different construction trades, along with hands-on basis practical training across several different construction trades.

“Lincoln College construction staff carry out the training along with a group of construction learners each year. The learners gain valuable experience at training the next generation, which is really valuable. Special thanks must go to the tutors at this great event.”

Plastering Level 1 learner, Maddi Cribb, said: “I didn’t know what it would be like but the kids have been amazing. Getting some teaching experience is really good. I got into plastering as my dad is in the trade and after I finish my Level 2 I am hoping to get an apprenticeship so I can join my dad’s company or star my own company.”

Plumbing Level 2 learner, Archie Carter, said: “We had loads of kids come in to learn the basics, we taught them to build a push fit plastic frame and then we demonstrate how to solder a joint. I really enjoy my course, we’re connecting up to water tanks and all sorts, it’s great to see it all come together.”
